The Scheme of Things

 In Travel

On my trip to Turkey in January 2017, I was lucky enough to witness  “Sema”, which is a form of physically active meditation which originated among Sufis.

In the symbolism of the Sema ritual(of which the whirling movement is a part of), the Dervish’s right arm is directed to the sky, ready to receive God’s beneficence; and his left hand, is turned toward the earth, passing on God’s beneficence to the human beings. As I watched the ritual play out, I found the answer to my quest for photography; that to pass on the beauty of the world and its people – unfiltered and unadulterated – to the people around me who sometimes live vicariously through my photos.
